Texas High School Bowling Club Program Highlights
- Bowling competition is a 10-12 week window - Winter Sport (Nov-Feb) State Finals March 1, 2003/Don Carter West, Dallas
- After school program from 3:30-5:30 PM
- 2001-2002 - 25 schools, 5 Districts, 47 Teams participated
(N. Dallas, Montgomery County, SW Houston, Central Texas, N. Ft. Worth)
- 2002-2003 - 61 schools, 12 Districts, 128 Teams estimated
(N. Dallas, Garland, Montgomery County, SW Houston, NW Houston, Central Texas, N. Ft Worth, South Ft Worth, Dallas, Central Houston, North Houston, New Braunfels)
- 24 states are club level; 10 states are boys and girls varsity
- A national survey was conducted that said 70% and up to 90% in some areas of the nation of all the students that bowl do not participate in any other sport; the NCAA recently approved Women's level bowling as a Varsity Sport
- Four Teams are formed - Boys/Girls Varsity and Jr. Varsity- total of 32 bowlers. The team roster will be 8 players; five players competing and three substitutes; A " farm-team" concept has been added to create reserve players and to retain any players who did not qualify for the team.
- All bowling will be on a scratch basis
- We are a lifetime sport with no handicapping
- The Bowling Center sponsor will pay for the cost of the program beginning in 2001-2002 for three years. We are then evaluated by the UIL in order to receive varsity status.
- All rules and regulations of the UIL are followed. Smoke free centers and all Bars/Lounges are closed during play times. Academic Eligibility is met; check grades, background checks on employees.
- This program is a great feeder program for collegiate levels.
